Saturday July 23 THROWDOWN

Months of planning went into this day, and I could not be more happy or thankful with how successful it was. I will be the absolute first to admit that I am morbidly pissed off about my actual performance within the competition, but I am so happy with the execution of the event and the compliments received afterward, that I will let it go.. eventually.

So the day began with a lovely rainstorm that forced us to move WOD #2 - KB Drill/Bear Crawl into the first slot. This was an odd stroke of luck because it ended up flowing much better. Little luck never hurt anyone.

WOD2 - 3 Rounds of KB 5 Drill/ Bear Crawl
Time: 9:26

I was generally happy with this time considering I literally did not do a single warmup exercise of any kind.  I just hopped right into my heat and away we went. The only thing that gives me major trouble in this is the left hand clean and press because my shoulder tends to weaken at the transition point.. Oh well, made it through.. Time was decent but not spectacular given the competition I was facing.

WOD1 - Deadlift Burpee Ladder
Last Station - 375#

Heading into this I also did not really warm up I just sort of hoped that the event itself would serve as a warmup and a max effort deadlift, with the burpees there to keep me with a slight sweat going in the sun.. This worked out perfectly right until the 400 lift, my previous 1 RM (405). I was so stoked about nailing the 375 lift with no problem I just walked right up to the 400 with no chalk, no reverse hand grip on one side, and generally I just rushed it. I got to about 75% of the way up, and let it slip out of my hand.. Son of a BITCH! So effing close.. I know I had it too with a little chalk and the correct grip.. idiot.. got what I deserved on that.. Unfortunately not making that lift cost me a bunch of points..

WOD 3 -    8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 Power Clean, Pull Up.. 20 Double Unders between each round.

Knowing this weight was at 155 my plan heading in was not to go to failure on any one set so that I was burned out for later.. I knew I could do the pull ups unbroken and was just hoping for a mediocre day of jump rope.
I got through the first 5 rounds about as fast as I thought I was capable of doing it.. Then came round 6.. Got through my 3 power cleans, pull ups no problem.. then fucking shit all over myself at the double under segment.. I legit couldn't jump anymore or string anything together.. It was mortifying. And of course with DUs, the more mad you get, the less chance you have of finishing it up.. Needless to say I DNF'd in the round of 2 reps.. Completely wasted an otherwise great effort.. My placing would have been sooooo much better had it not been for that one round..

No use crying over spilt milk.. but still, I really wanted that one.. Just sucks..

Overall, I would love to compete again, but I don't know if I have an interest in competing and running a competition on the same day again.. Head goes in too many different directions and it is hard to focus..

Until CrushFest next year...
